Artist's Head for Sale
Kaunas biennial has announced an exclusive auction and on offer is the self-portrait by sculptor Augustinas Kluoda “One of One-off”. The sculpture was exhibited at the Kaunas biennial UNITEXT Emerging Artists’ project exhibition (Kaunas Picture Gallery, 2013) and became the work in the exhibition that has attracted the most attention from the public, winning a special mention of the Kaunas biennial board!
Augustinas Kluoda is an emerging Lithuanian sculptor best-known for his realistic portrait sculptures. He is currently studying for a Masters in sculpture restoration at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and has won the Romuladas Vytautas Kaminskas and Milda Kaminskienė prize for restoration.
“It seems that most of my works are illustrations of feelings in a three-dimensional language of Esperanto to the weary passers-by… In my works I mainly look for visual experiences. I want the piece to overwhelm at first glance,” says Augustinas. Currently, the young artist exhibits his works mostly online where they are successfully selling. “At the moment it’s mainly on the internet, I rarely exhibit something publicly. Mostly the sculptures don’t stay for too long with me, I either sell or destroy them – only the photographs remain. I still haven’t created anything that would fully satisfy me and maybe I never will. But, it seems, so far that this is the aim in my life – to create something that would take your breath away and would make you absolutely forget everything even for a moment”, adds the artist.
The suggested starting bid for the piece: 1200 EUR. Anyone can suggest a bidding price, negotiations are also possible. Bids should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org. The auction continues until 9 February, 2014.
